Claude in Excel Just Made Me Rethink How I Use Spreadsheets

I’ve been playing with [Claude in Excel](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/12650343-use-claude-in-excel) for the past week, and honestly, it’s one of those tools that makes you wonder how you ever got by without it. Anthropic built this as a native Excel add-in — you install it from the [Microsoft Marketplace](https://marketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/product/saas/wa200009404), open a side panel, and just start talking to Claude about your workbook. No copying data into a browser tab, no exporting CSVs. It reads your sheets, understands your formulas, and can actually edit things in place.

The February update is where things got really interesting. When Anthropic upgraded to Opus 4.6, they gave Claude proper Excel-native operations — sorting, filtering, editing pivot tables, applying conditional formatting, tweaking charts. Before this, it was more of a “read and suggest” tool. Now it just does the work. Then on February 17th, they rolled out [MCP connector support](https://claude.com/blog/cowork-plugins-finance), which is the part that has finance Twitter losing its mind. You can hook Claude up to live data from S&P Global, LSEG, Daloopa, PitchBook, Moody’s, and FactSet — right inside Excel. Anthropic even open-sourced their [financial services plugins on GitHub](https://github.com/anthropics/financial-services-plugins) if you want to dig into the implementation.

The buzz around this has been wild. It hit #1 on [Product Hunt](https://www.producthunt.com/products/claude) today with over 100 upvotes. [CNN Business reported](https://www.cnn.com/2026/02/24/tech/anthropic-claude-plugins-office-jobs) that Anthropic’s office suite push sent software stocks into a tailspin earlier this month, and [CNBC covered](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/24/anthropic-claude-cowork-office-worker.html) the broader enterprise rollout. [AI Tool Analysis published a detailed review](https://aitoolanalysis.com/claude-in-excel-review/) calling it flat-out better than Copilot for spreadsheet work.

What I appreciate most is that it actually respects the structure of your workbook. When you ask it to update an assumption in a financial model, it traces the formula dependencies and doesn’t break anything downstream. It was previously locked to Max and Enterprise plans, but Anthropic recently opened it up to Pro users too, which makes it accessible to a much wider audience. If you spend any meaningful time in Excel, this is worth trying.
