Yarbo SAM Module + Open Platform: The First Outdoor Robot With an Open API for Developers

Yarbo — the modular yard robot that snow-blows, mows, and leaf-blows — just opened its platform to developers. On April 4, the company announced the Smart Assist Module (SAM) and a full Open Platform strategy. This is the first outdoor autonomous robot shipping an API and SDK for third-party integrations.

What SAM Adds to the Hardware

SAM is a $199 add-on module (Kickstarter price, $249 MSRP) for the Yarbo M Series. Two new modes: Follow Me lets the robot trail you around the yard carrying tools and materials. Patrol mode sends it on custom routes with live video streaming and app-based alerts — basically a roving security camera that also mows your lawn. The M Series Kickstarter hit $1 million within 2 hours and has raised over $2.3 million so far.

The Developer Play: Open API, SDK, and CoreBridge

Three software layers: Open API for connecting Yarbo to Home Assistant, Google Home, and Alexa. SDK with code libraries and docs for custom integrations. Automation Editor — a drag-and-drop no-code tool inside the Yarbo app for building workflows.

On the hardware side, CoreBridge is a standardized interface exposing mounting points, power, and data connections for third-party modules. The demo use case: an electromagnet attachment that drags your trash can to the curb on collection day and brings it back. Full platform launches early 2027.
