The Humane Pin died trying to replace the phone. SpeakON just pulled 438 upvotes and 70 comments on Product Hunt betting on the opposite: a MagSafe button that plugs into your iPhone instead of competing with it.
The hardware
26.5 grams. Snaps onto the MagSafe ring of any iPhone 12 or later. One press starts recording — no wake word, no app switch, no need to unlock the screen. USB-C fast charging, and a dedicated on-board mic instead of piggy-backing on the iPhone’s audio stack. $129 standalone, $199 bundled with a year of SpeakON Pro. US-only at launch, iOS 16 and up.
The real trick is software
The button is a dumb trigger. The iOS companion app does the work: a proprietary “Attune” engine detects which app is active — Mail, Slack, Notes, iMessage — and rewrites your voice into text that fits the destination. Terse for Slack, longer and structured for email. 12-language auto-translation. SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR compliant, which is the enterprise tell — they want this on corporate iPhones, not your personal one.
The bet is simple. People don’t want a second device to replace the phone. They want a button that makes the phone faster.
