Twenty is the open-source CRM rebuilding itself around AI agents and MCP

CRMs were among the first enterprise software to feel dated in the agent era, and Twenty — the open-source Salesforce alternative now past 50,000 GitHub stars — is rebuilding itself around that shift rather than bolting AI on the side.

## What Twenty is

Twenty is a developer-first, self-hostable CRM built by a US public-benefit corporation, pitched as an alternative to Salesforce and HubSpot for teams that want to own and extend their stack in TypeScript. The core is the usual CRM surface — companies, contacts, deals, custom objects — but its metadata-driven architecture is what makes the AI features possible without a bolted-on chatbot.

## The AI layer

Twenty ships a native MCP server, so Claude or ChatGPT can read and act on your CRM directly through the Model Context Protocol. On top of that, AI can suggest field values, generate notes on a company record from web research, and help map messy data during imports. It’s honest about limits — advanced forecasting, complex CPQ, and enterprise territory management aren’t there yet — but for technical teams, an open CRM that an agent can drive natively is a different proposition from renting one.
