Anthropic Mythos 5 — U.S. government clears limited release

Anthropic’s strongest model is back online — but only for a list the government wrote.

On June 26 the Trump administration cleared Anthropic to release Mythos 5 to roughly 100 companies and federal agencies. That’s two weeks after Commerce ordered both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 pulled offline for every user on Earth, citing a reported jailbreak that spooked national security officials.

What Mythos 5 actually is

Mythos is Anthropic’s top tier — a general-purpose frontier LLM built for coding and agentic work, with cybersecurity strength falling out of that raw capability. Until now it lived behind Project Glasswing, a ~50-partner preview (Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks) using it to scan their own codebases. Those partners turned up 10,000+ high- or critical-severity flaws. This isn’t a normal API launch — it’s a government-controlled access list, with biology and cyber safeguards selectively lifted per trusted partner.

Why it matters

Same playbook as OpenAI’s restricted GPT-5.6 rollout: the most capable models now clear a national-security gate before anyone touches them. Fable 5 is still dark. The real signal — frontier AI access is becoming something a Commerce Secretary signs off on, partner by partner.
