The HKU lab behind LightRAG and AI-Trader has done it again. Vibe-Trading (HKUDS) jumped 694 GitHub stars in a single day, now around 17K total. This lab is an open-source hit factory at this point.
What it is
A trading agent that plugs into Claude Code or Codex CLI as a skill. You describe a strategy in plain English — “buy the dip on momentum stocks, exit at 5% drawdown” — and the agent generates it, backtests it, and can execute it. Under the hood: a ReAct engine with 21 tools and 68 skills, plus 6 backtest engines covering US equities, China A-shares, crypto, futures, and forex, with Monte Carlo and walk-forward validation baked in.
Live execution runs through Robinhood’s Agentic Trading connector, behind OAuth, an order guard, and an instant halt switch. The agent never holds your funds.
Why it’s blowing up
Agents entering finance is the hottest crossover in AI right now, and “vibe trading” is a phrase that markets itself. It’s also the controversy: should trading really be reduced to describing a feeling? That argument is exactly what’s driving the stars.
