Otter.ai and Granola record your meetings by shipping the audio to their servers. Meetily’s whole pitch is the opposite: nothing leaves your laptop. That nerve is clearly raw — the repo pulled +1,400 GitHub stars in a single day, past 17K total, on 180K+ downloads.
What it actually is
A desktop AI meeting note-taker for macOS and Windows, built on Rust (Tauri backend, Next.js front end). It grabs audio straight from your device, so it works with Zoom, Meet, Teams, Discord — anything that makes sound. Transcription runs locally on Whisper or Parakeet (they claim 4x faster), with speaker diarization, then Ollama writes the summary. 100% local, no account, GDPR and HIPAA compliant by design. That last part is why healthcare and legal folks keep showing up in the issues.
The API angle
It’s MIT-licensed and self-hosted, so you point it at whatever brain you trust. Ollama for fully offline, or plug in Claude, Groq, OpenRouter, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Community edition is free; Pro runs $10/user/month.
The AI content here isn’t a new model — it’s the packaging: local transcription plus local LLM summarization that a non-engineer can install and run without leaking a word.
