At DAC 2026 the three companies that own chip design software all said the same thing on the same week: the AI stops assisting and starts driving. These are software agents that design and verify chips — not the chips themselves.
What each one shipped
Synopsys put out a fully autonomous verification agent, built on its AgentEngineer tech, claiming up to 50x faster time to validated RTL and higher coverage. Cadence answered with the AuraStack AI Super Agent, extending its silicon-to-system portfolio. Siemens bolted self-verifying agents onto its Fuse system, wiring them to physics engines so mistakes get caught before tapeout instead of after.
The common thread: long-running autonomy across the whole flow, not one-off task help. All three lean on NVIDIA’s agentic stack; Synopsys also demoed workflows on Microsoft Discovery with AMD.
Why it matters
This is agentic AI landing in real engineering, where a wrong answer costs a mask set. It’s enterprise-only — embedded in EDA platforms for chip teams, no public API — with broad availability targeted for the second half of 2026.
