OpenAI is quietly testing a new ChatGPT feature called Writing Style. The pitch, straight from the onboarding screen: “ChatGPT will write in your voice by referencing examples from your connected apps.” It pulls writing samples from three categories — Slack for messaging, Gmail for email, Google Drive and Notion for documents — and learns how you actually write.
What it fixes
The most common complaint about AI writing: it doesn’t sound like me. Today you paste examples into every chat or maintain custom instructions by hand. Writing Style skips all that — connect your apps once, and drafts come out in your tone. It’s the logical next step after memory and connectors in ChatGPT’s personalization push.
The irony
In late July, ChatGPT started refusing to write in the style of named authors — even dead ones like Dickens and Hemingway — as OpenAI fends off copyright lawsuits. So the new line is clear: your voice is fine, Stephen King’s is not. Copying the one writer who can’t sue you.
Currently limited to a small test group. No word on wide rollout or pricing.
