DJI’s first 360° FPV drone hit the US market yesterday, April 13th. The Avata 360 shoots 8K/60fps HDR 360° video and 120MP panoramic stills from dual 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensors with f/1.9 aperture. Flip to Single Lens mode and it becomes a classic forward-facing 4K/60fps FPV rig. 455g, 23-minute flight time, O4+ transmission rated to 20km, omnidirectional obstacle avoidance that works at night, integrated prop guards. The whole package.
Why It’s Trending
Price. The drone-only starts at $549. The Fly More Combo runs around $719. The Antigravity A1 — its only real competitor in consumer 360° FPV — starts at $1,599 for the standard bundle. DJI matched or beat the A1 on sensor size, video resolution, and low-light performance, then undercut it by more than $1,000. That math is hard to argue with.
DJI Mobile SDK and Cloud API
This is where it gets interesting for developers. DJI’s Mobile SDK (MSDK) gives third-party apps control over flight paths, real-time video streams, and sensor data. The Cloud API uses MQTT/HTTPS/WebSocket protocols — connect your drone to any backend as long as DJI Pilot 2 can reach your server. Automated inspection routes, live 360° streaming to custom dashboards, aerial data pipelines for mapping or agriculture — all buildable.
