Locus Robotics Array: DHL’s New Warehouse Bot Cuts 90% of Picking Labor

DHL just took delivery of the first Locus Robotics Array units at its Columbus, Ohio facility. This isn’t another AMR that follows a worker around — it’s a full mobile manipulator that goes to the shelf, grabs the item, and hands it off to other robots. No human needed.

What the Hardware Actually Does

Locus Array rolls on omnidirectional wheels, reaches into standard double-deep racking up to 10 ft high, and pulls totes weighing up to 66 lb. It combines a mobile robot base, an integrated picking arm, and AI vision into one unit. At DHL, three Arrays work alongside Origin and Vector robots as a coordinated fleet, covering picking, putaway, induction, replenishment — the full loop. Locus says it handles 60–70% of e-commerce SKUs, including 30% of polybags. The company calls this category “Robots-to-Goods” (R2G): instead of bringing goods to a pick station, the robot goes to the goods.

API Access Through LocusONE

The whole fleet runs on LocusONE, which exposes a REST API (JSON) for bidirectional integration with 50+ WMS and ERP systems — SAP, Oracle, Manhattan, you name it. LocusConnect middleware handles the plumbing. You can pipe real-time performance data into Power BI or Tableau. API access is limited to contracted customers, so no public sandbox, but the integration surface is serious.

Global debut happened at MODEX 2026 in Atlanta (April 13–16). First full-scale deployments expected later this year.
