title: “Ulticam IQ V2 is the first Matter 1.5 camera with Gemini on board — $199, no subscription”
Xthings quietly did what Nest and Ring still haven’t. The Ulticam IQ V2 is the first security camera certified for Matter 1.5, and it ships with Google Gemini wired into the backend. $199. Lifetime rolling 7-day cloud storage. No monthly fee.
The hardware
4K sensor, PoE-powered (one cable, no wall wart), AES-256 on-device encryption. Person, package and vehicle detection runs locally on an edge NPU, so the feed doesn’t leave the house unless you ask it to. The cloud side is where Gemini kicks in — scene understanding, false-alarm suppression, and natural-language search like “show me when the UPS driver came yesterday.” That query alone is what most $20/month plans still can’t do.
What agents can actually do with it
This is the part smart-home tinkerers are already chewing on. Native Matter 1.5 plus ONVIF means an agent doesn’t need a vendor SDK — it talks to the camera through Apple HomeKit, Google Home, SmartThings or Home Assistant directly. Pull an RTSP stream into your own VLM. Trigger recordings from a Matter controller. Fire the natural-language search from a Gemini agent on your phone. The camera is just a Matter node, which is exactly the point — no walled garden, no API keys to rotate.
