The smart-home press has been waiting on the Matter Camera spec for over a year. Aqara shipped it first on March 17, 2026.
The G350 is a 360° pan-tilt with two sensors on one gimbal: 4K wide-angle plus 2.5K telephoto with 9× hybrid zoom. The G400 is a wired doorbell cam with HomeKit Secure Video. Onboard AI handles object, face, package, animal, and vehicle recognition. A physical lens shutter slides shut when it’s off — real privacy, not a toggle.
Why Matter certification actually matters
You pair these directly with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, or Home Assistant. No Aqara cloud, no vendor bridge, no “Works With” sticker negotiation. AppleInsider’s headline said it plainly: the first Matter camera has arrived. r/HomeKit and Home Assistant forums are still debating it in mid-April as users write integration guides.
How an AI agent plugs in
Any Matter controller can subscribe to the new Camera cluster — live view, two-way audio, motion events, on-camera AI event types. An agent on Home Assistant can watch the front door, summarize who showed up, and pipe events into MCP workflows. No cloud round-trip, no Aqara API key.
