Anthropic wants Claude to stop waiting for prompts and start acting like a coworker. Claude Tag, launched June 23 in research preview for Enterprise and Team customers, drops Claude into Slack channels as an always-on teammate you summon with @Claude.
## What it does
Tag it in a thread and Claude reads the conversation, breaks down tasks, and pulls relevant context from elsewhere in the company. The twist is that it doesn’t only respond when asked — it monitors the channels it’s assigned to and jumps in when it judges a team needs a summary, a reminder, or a piece of context from another part of the org. There’s one shared Claude “identity” across the company, so employees can hand off half-finished work to each other through it.
## Why it matters
This is the move from chatbot to ambient colleague, and it lands squarely on Slackbot’s turf. Admins control exactly which channels, data, and systems Claude can touch, and how its contextual memory is used — the governance layer that makes “always-on” tolerable inside an enterprise. Anthropic says the capability will expand beyond Slack to other workplace platforms.
