Record a Skill sits in the + menu of the Claude desktop app, inside Cowork, Anthropic’s agent workspace for the office work nobody wants to do by hand. Hit record, run the task once while narrating why you’re doing each step, hit stop. Claude ingests the screen activity, mouse clicks, keystrokes and your voice commentary, then synthesizes a structured, rerunnable skill definition. Monthly reports, spreadsheet updates, file cleanup — the drudgery that’s tedious to describe but trivial to demonstrate.

Demonstration instead of specification

That’s the whole shift. Prompt engineering is the tax you pay for having to explain a task in words; a recording skips it. Everyone on Pro, Max or Team is now a skill author without knowing what a skill file is.

Why it matters

It’s the first mainstream agent product to teach by showing rather than telling. No standalone API yet, but the output follows Anthropic’s Agent Skills format — portable into Claude Code, Cursor, anything that reads SKILL.md. It also lands two weeks after Cowork went mobile and Anthropic revealed 90% of users aren’t coding, and days after Cowork Cloud started running jobs with the laptop closed. The bet is clear: Cowork wins on how easily normal people can hand it work, not on model benchmarks.
