Samsung showed up to the smart glasses fight. At Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22 — alongside the Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, Watch Ultra 2 and Watch 9 — it announced Galaxy Glasses, its first AI wearable, aimed straight at Meta’s Ray-Bans.
No display, and that’s on purpose
The hardware is deliberately boring: 12MP camera, directional speakers, mics, roughly 50 grams, Snapdragon AR1, no heads-up display. Reports put pricing between $379 and $499, with retail in early August. Frames come via Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. It runs Android XR with Gemini handling translation, turn-by-turn navigation, and questions about whatever you’re looking at. Samsung is copying the Ray-Ban formula before trying to beat it.
The real story is the 800 million number
Glasses got the applause; agentic AI is the actual shift. Samsung demoed voice commands that move across apps — order food, drop something on your calendar — instead of one-shot features. And it says Galaxy AI will be on more than 800 million devices by year-end. Nobody else has consumer AI distribution at that scale. Meta sells glasses one pair at a time. Samsung already shipped the phones.
