An enterprise AI agent is only as useful as the context it can see. Microsoft’s Work IQ APIs, going generally available on June 16, 2026, expose the intelligence layer behind Microsoft 365 Copilot so any agent can tap the same understanding of how work actually happens.
## What Work IQ provides
Work IQ continuously processes content from email, calendar, meetings, chats, files, people, and line-of-business systems to build a semantic understanding of a business. It is structured as three layers — Data, Memory, and Inference — that together give Copilot and your own agents continuous, contextual awareness instead of a one-off prompt. For developers, that means an agent can reason over real organizational context rather than whatever you manually paste in.
## The API surface
Microsoft organizes Work IQ around Chat, Context, Tools, and Workspaces, and GA ships A2A support, a redesigned remote MCP server, and REST API access. Governance is built in: data, context, and insights stay inside the Microsoft 365 tenant trust boundary, and every action an agent takes is auditable and discoverable — so teams can build enterprise agents without bolting on a separate security layer.
