Anthropic shipped Claude Design, a standalone app where you describe an interface and Claude builds it — websites, UI prototypes, slide decks, marketing one-pagers — then you refine by conversation, inline comments, or live spacing and color knobs. Figma dropped as much as 7% the day it landed. Adobe slid about 1.5%. The market read it as Anthropic walking straight into design software.
What it actually does
This isn’t a chat sidebar. During onboarding Claude reads your codebase and design files and builds a design system — your colors, typography, components — so every project stays on-brand automatically. You can start from a prompt, drop in a DOCX or PPTX, or point it at your live site to grab real elements. Finished work ships to Claude Code as a handoff package, closing the loop from idea to shippable code.
Why it matters
Claude Code proved Anthropic can own a vertical. Design was the soft spot AI hadn’t cracked — high-value, mostly visual, judgment-heavy. Powered by Opus 4.7 and in research preview for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise, this is Anthropic betting it can.
