The company behind Devin, the autonomous coding agent, is now in your text messages. On July 23 Cognition acquired The Interaction Company, maker of Poke, in a low-nine-figure deal.
What Poke actually is
Not a coding tool — a consumer AI agent that lives inside SMS, WhatsApp and iMessage. No app to open, no dashboard to learn. You text it like a friend and it handles calendar, planning, reminders, smart-home stuff. The pitch: make an AI agent as easy as sending a text. It’s relayed over 100 million messages in three months and is the only third-party agent Apple has approved for Messages for Business. There’s no public API — interaction is the messaging thread itself.
Why the coding-agent leader wants it
Cognition sells always-on cloud agents to developers. Poke is the same idea pointed at everyone else — proactive, personal, always awake. Buying it is a bet that personality and presence become the next battleground, not just capability. Cognition plans to swap in its own models to make Poke faster and more reliable while keeping the experience intact.
