Omarchy Quattro: DHH rebuilds his Linux distro around AI agents, with $10M from Tobi Lütke and Patrick Collison

DHH calls Omarchy 4.0 “Quattro” one of the greatest releases of his career. Bold from the guy who shipped Rails, but the numbers carry it: the Arch + Hyprland distro got rewritten from scratch on QuickShell, dropped 17 dependencies, shrank the ISO 30%, and installs about 40% faster — roughly 45 seconds on a fast machine.

A desktop where agents are system-level citizens

This is the actual story. Omarchy is a Linux distribution with AI coding agents built into the OS itself — nine of them (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Copilot CLI and more) pre-wired with a settable default and top-bar status. Agents edit your configs, write your code, and when an app crashes, the report routes straight to your agent for diagnosis. macOS and Windows still treat AI as a chat sidebar; Omarchy treats it as the operator.

$10M says this isn’t a hobby

The new Omacom Foundation raised $10M from patrons writing $1M checks each: Tobi Lütke (Shopify), Patrick Collison (Stripe), Michael Dell, Jack Dorsey, Drew Houston. That crowd funding a Linux desktop is a bet that the agentic OS layer is still unclaimed.
