X Square Robot closed nearly ¥2 billion (~$276M) in Series B on April 20, co-led by Xiaomi and Sequoia China — the biggest embodied-AI check in China this week. WALL-A is their flagship: a dual-arm humanoid running X Square’s own Great Wall foundation model. The reason builders should care is WALL-OSS, the open-source sibling, already live on Hugging Face and GitHub.
The hardware
WALL-A is a wheeled bimanual humanoid on the Quanta X2 platform — 172 cm body, up to 62 total degrees of freedom, each 7-DoF arm paired with a 20-DoF dexterous hand, 756 mm reach, 6 kg end-effector payload. Target jobs are the classic AI-butler demos: household tidying, desktop cleanup, light service work. Underneath sits a VLA policy trained on real robot action data plus generated video, hardened against lighting and object variation.
Plug an agent in
WALL-OSS weights sit on Hugging Face as x-square-robot/wall-oss-flow and wall-oss-fast, source on GitHub at X-Square-Robot/wall-x, and it is already integrated into LeRobot — post-train, evaluate, and deploy on third-party arms end-to-end. Feed natural-language tasks to the VLM and it emits robot actions; or slot it into a sim-to-real pipeline. Rare case of a top-tier Chinese embodied model that is actually callable today.
