X Square Robot dropped Wall-B on April 22, paired with a new architecture they call WUM — World Unified Model. Same week, they closed a $276M Series B led by Xiaomi’s investment arm, with HongShan/Sequoia China, Alibaba, ByteDance and Meituan along for the ride. The company was founded December 2023. Two-and-a-half years old, and about to put humanoids inside strangers’ living rooms in 35 days.
The hardware
Wall-B runs on two robot bodies. QUANTA X1 Pro is a dual-arm wheeled platform with dexterous hands — the safer one to park in a kitchen. QUANTA X2 is the bipedal humanoid, also dexterous-handed. Both share the same brain. Pick whichever form your apartment can stomach.
Why WUM matters
Most embodied AI stacks bolt vision, language and motor control together as modules trained separately. WUM jointly trains perception, language, action and physical prediction from scratch. Force, friction, collision dynamics aren’t a physics layer on top — they emerge inside the model. The pitch: the robot anticipates the cup tipping before it tips, instead of mopping up after the spill.
May 25 is the test. Real households, no scripted demos. If it works, China just lapped Tesla Optimus and Figure 02 to the front door.
