AI agents are getting good at acting online, but the phone network is still mostly closed to them. AgentPhone, a Y Combinator Spring 2026 startup, fixes that by giving every AI agent its own phone number for both voice and messaging through a single API.

## What AgentPhone does

Developers provision a number in seconds, then route inbound and outbound calls and texts through one consistent interface their agent can consume. Underneath, AgentPhone handles the parts of telephony that usually take weeks to get right: A2P registration, spam scoring, message threading across channels, and call-control primitives like transfers, recordings, and DTMF tones. The result is that an agent can call a business, answer a customer, or text a user without a team stitching together a carrier stack.

## Why it has traction

The founders come from Meta, where one built AI agent infrastructure on WhatsApp serving 280+ million businesses. That telephony-at-scale background shows in the early adopter list, which already includes teams at Google’s Agent Development Kit, Replit, Y Combinator, LangChain, and Alchemy — a sign that “give the agent a phone number” is becoming standard plumbing for production agents.
