Spline shipped V2 on August 21: a full rebuild of its 3D design editor. New UI, WebGPU renderer with WebGL fallback, PBR/HDR pipelines, boolean operations 4x faster, plus native macOS and Windows apps. The rebuild is the footnote. The headline is who gets to drive it.
An editor built for agents, not just designers
V2 ships with a built-in AI Agent Mode that can create and edit everything in a scene — objects, materials, lighting, cameras, particles, cloners, even interaction events. It handles multi-object layouts with procedural generators and a constraint solver, and version history logs every AI prompt like a commit.
The MCP server is the real story
Spline now exposes an MCP server, so ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, and VS Code can control the editor directly — with the exact same toolset Spline’s own agent uses. Typical flow: describe a product scene in Cursor, let the agent model it, light it, wire up the interactions, then generate the HTML/JS to run it. No professional design tool has treated external coding agents as first-class collaborators before. Figma hasn’t. Blender hasn’t. Pricing moved to Hobby/Pro/Max tiers with per-plan credits.
