Microsoft Project Perception: three AI vendors, one router, aimed straight at Anthropic Mythos

Microsoft’s new AI security product, codenamed Project Perception, ships as soon as this month. It’s not a chatbot or an API — it’s a platform that sits inside enterprise IT systems, scans for software vulnerabilities, and fixes them automatically. The exact job Anthropic built Mythos for.

The router is the product

Perception isn’t a new model. It’s a routing layer that picks between Anthropic, OpenAI, and Microsoft models depending on the security task. That’s the whole cost play: Mythos’s estimated API price runs 100% above Opus and 82% above GPT, the two most expensive models on the market. Route the cheap tasks to cheap models and you undercut Anthropic — while reselling Anthropic. Pricing isn’t final, but “far below Mythos” is the stated target.

Hayete Gallot’s first big swing

This is the debut product from Hayete Gallot, Microsoft’s security chief since February, who replaced senior execs and cut hundreds of roles to rebuild the entire security org around AI. Early signal: July’s Patch Tuesday hit a record 622 Windows patches, and reports say Microsoft’s multi-model bug-finder helped generate them. If a router matches a frontier model at half the price, Anthropic’s priciest product has a margin problem.
