Dobot quietly priced its new quadruped at RMB 7,499 — roughly $1,030. That’s $570 below Unitree’s Go2, the cheapest “real” robot dog most people have heard of. Consumer robot dogs just got a new price floor.
What you actually get for $1,030
It’s a wheel-plus-leg hybrid, not a pure quadruped. Top speed 1.8 m/s, 3–7 kg payload, climbs 30° slopes and 16 cm steps, dual 1080p cameras front and rear, omnidirectional vision tracking. Dobot pitches four use cases: outdoor follow-me filming, home security patrol, kids learning to code, and “emotional companionship” (read: mechanical pet). Battery runs 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the pack. Dobot has been shipping industrial arms for a decade — this is the same engineering team going downmarket.
Why agent builders should care
Rover X1 ships with an open SDK and standardized expansion ports for arms and gimbals. The DobotStudio + Python SDK ecosystem covers movement control, camera streaming, and the built-in patrol and follow tasks — meaning an LLM agent can actually drive this thing. Drag-and-drop for beginners, code for the rest. A $1,000 robot dog you can script from Python is the cheapest physical agent host on the market right now.
